NORFOLK – A top-ten showdown at Memorial Field turned out to be all Lincoln Southeast on Tuesday as the Knights stopped Norfolk’s winning ways.
Four first half goals helped LSE (7-2) knock off Norfolk (8-3) by a 4-0 final, ending the Panthers’ seven-match winning streak in the process. With just about 20 minutes played, Southeast would strike through senior Jasmyn Nash in the 20th minute as the Knights broke onto the scoreboard. Nearly ten minutes later, junior Ally Hall added a diving header off a cross from Izzy Dragoo to make it a 2-0 LSE lead. Hall would find the net just over two minutes later to increase the Knights’ lead to 3-0 and junior Melanie Brecka scored on a corner kick to put Southeast in front 4-0 at halftime. Norfolk would try to find a goal in the second half, but Southeast kept the Panthers at bay and ended up with the 4-0 victory.
The loss drops Norfolk to 8-3 on the season, with the Panthers next in action on Thursday hosting Lincoln High.
The Norfolk and Southeast boys were tied at 0-0 after one half of action, but the match sprang into life in the second as the Knights clawed back to get their third victory on the season.
Lane McCallum’s goal in the 51st minute put Norfolk ahead 1-0, but the Panthers would hold the lead for just over four minutes as Anselmo Bernal’s goal from a corner kick tied the match at 1-1 with 25:30 remaining. Norfolk had a couple of opportunities to regain the lead, but it was Southeast freshman Tim Goldsmith who found the scoresheet next with 6:26 to play to put the Knights in front 2-1. No more goals would come and Southeast hung on for their third victory of the season, moving to 3-7. Norfolk saw its two-match winning streak snapped and fell to 3-8 with the loss.
