Strong First Half Carries Blue Devils Over West Point-Beemer During Postseason Play

NORFOLK – With girls high school basketball teams in full postseason play, the C1-7 Subdistrict continued from Norfolk High Tuesday evening.

During the second semi-final of the night, #2 Wayne took on #3 West Point-Beemer.

After one quarter of play Wayne led 12-10 and edged the Cadets in the second as well 11-6. At the half, WHS was up 23-16. Wayne then again outscored West Point-Beemer in the third 18-11 before the Cadets took the fourth 18-14. Final found Wayne holding on for the 55-45 victory to improve to 18-6 as West Point-Beemer ended their season at 8-17.

Junior Kyler Hammer paced three Blue Devils in double figure scoring with 23 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Senior Kelsey Boyer added 11 points as freshman Frankie Klausen scored another 10.

Junior Brittany Hinkel led West Point-Beemer with 19 points followed by Senior Bethany Anderson scoring another 10. Freshman Abby Dale grabbed a team-high 10 boards.

Earlier in the night #1 Pierce won over #4 Norfolk Catholic 44-31. Wayne and Pierce will meet up Thursday for the C1-7 Subdistrict title game at 6:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the District Championship game against the winner of the C1-8 Subdistrict featuring #1 (19-4) Ord vs. #2 (14-10) O’Neill.
