BRAZIL – The USA D-2 Women’s Basketball Brazil Tour came to an end over the weekend and allowed the team to get another day and a half to relax on the beach and shop around.
After picking up wins of 100-22 and 70-59, the 10-member team made up of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) players as well as two Wayne State College coaches continued, with two more games over the weekend.
Members making up the team include Wayne State senior forwards Paige Ballinger and Maggie Schulte as well as head coach Chris Kielsmeier and assistant coach Kelly Kielsmeier. Other players are Chelsey Henry (Missouri Southern), Paige Imhoff and Brenlee McPherson (Pittsburg State), Tanya Meyer (Northwest Missouri State), Paige Redmond (Central Missouri), Miranda Ristau (Northern State) as well as Cassidy Thorson and Jacky Volkert (MSU Moorhead).
The USA D-2 team picked up their third straight win Saturday morning of 56-38 against a University Team. It marked the first time that Team USA faced a university team according to WSC head women’s basketball coach Chris Kielsmeier.
Wrapping up the four-games in six days, the D-2 USA team won 78-44 and capped off a perfect 4-0 record during the Brazil Tour. It marked the first time that Team USA D-2 Women’s Basketball has gone 4-0 on its trip to Brazil.
Members of the team will begin their travel back to the United States on Tuesday evening departing from Rio de Janeiro before returning to the states on Wednesday, August 9.
The Wayne State College women’s basketball team is slated to open their 2017-18 season with the Division II CCA Tip-off Classic in Orange, California over a three-day period. WSC will face Young Harris College on Friday, November 3; Azusa Pacific University on Saturday, November 4 and University of Wisconsin Parkside on Sunday, November 5.
