WAYNE – The Wayne High Blue Devil volleyball team entered 1-1 in their only two home games of the regular season coming into Thursday’s match with Battle Creek, WHS was looking to finish off their home schedule with a win.
The crowd wasn’t disappointed by the competition or the result as a five-set match favored Wayne High. After dropping the first and third sets, Wayne won the second and fourth to force a winner-take-all fifth set that came down to the wire (12-25, 31-29, 26-28, 25-17, 15-13). WHS is now 13-10 on the season, winning four straight matches while the Bravettes fall to 14-7.
Lauren Pick recorded a team-high 16 kills to paced WHS at the net while Kylie Hammer and Emily Armstrong each followed with a double-double. Armstrong tabbed 13 kills and 12 digs while Hammer tacked on 12 kills and 20 digs. Allyson Avery led WHS with 27 set assists followed by Erin O’Reilly with another 16.
Wayne High will next compete in a road triangular on Tuesday, October 17 in O’Neill.
