WAYNE – Several youth through the high school level of football have an opportunity to sign up for a camp hosted by Wayne State College.
In late June, the annual Young Cats camp, Top Cats camp and 8-Man Team Football camp will take place from Bob Cunningham Field. Head Wildcat football coach Dan McLaughlin and the WSC staff are inviting all students to the sport.
Those who will be in second through eighth grade can attend the Young Cats Camp on Friday, June 23 from Noon until 5 p.m. Registration is due by Wednesday, June 21 as cost is $25 per camper.
The Young Cats camp includes individual instruction from the WSC coaching staff and players, competition drills (awards), camp t-shirt along with sandwich/drink provided after camp.
Check-in will be from 11:30 a.m. until Noon at Memorial Stadium.
Information for the Top Cat’s camp is for prospects going into 9th-12th grade, which features a light contact (high and hard) padded individual camp. Registration is due by Thursday, June 22 and cost is $65 per camper. The camp will take place on Saturday, June 24.
Schedule for the Top Cat’s camp includes registration from 8 until 9 a.m. at Memorial Stadium, 9-9:15 a.m. – introductions, 9:15-9:45 a.m. – stretch, 9:45 – 11:15 a.m. – performance testing, 11:15 until Noon – position drills, Noon until 12:50 p.m. – lunch (WSC cafeteria), 1 p.m. – stretch, 1:30 – 2:15 p.m. – position drills, 2:15 p.m. – competition (one-on-one’s) and 3:15 p.m. – recruiting tour for Juniors/Seniors.
Other equipment that campers will need are shoulder pads/jersey and helmet.
Also, 8-man teams are invited to a camp lasting from Sunday, June 25 through Tuesday, June 27. Registration is due by Friday, June 23 as cost for an overnight camper is $155 while cost per commuter camper is $125.
This camp is a full-contact (high and hard) padded team camp where players and coaches have the opportunity to develop fundamentals and techniques as well as team objectives.
Each day will include team practice sessions, team scrimmages and the team competitions including races as well as King of the Camp. Extra equipment needed includes shoulder pads/jersey, pants with leg pads, helmet and personal items for dorms (if staying overnight).
All campers will need football cleats/athletic shoes, socks, shorts, t-shirt along with any precautionary equipment such as ankle braces, mouth piece, etc.
