WAYNE – After recording their first playoff win since 1983, the Wayne High Blue Devil football team was back in action with #4 Wahoo Friday night.
The 12th ranked Blue Devils were able to host one more home game, where they went 3-2 during the regular season.
Three rushing touchdowns and a punt return from one Wahoo player accounted for most of the scoring as the Warriors win the quarter-final match at Wayne, 42-8. Wahoo is now 10-1 on the season while the Blue Devils end their turn-around season at 7-4.
Wahoo scored the lone points of the opening quarter when senior quarterback Cameron Quick completed a passing score to senior wideout Bret Walker.
In the second quarter, the Warriors added two more touchdowns. Senior running back Dylan Egr recorded a 50-yard punt return as Quick hooked up with senior wideout Billy Hancock for a 77-yard score.
Wahoo led 21-0 at the half.
During the third quarter and fourth quarter, Egr added a pair of seven-yard rushing touchdowns to extend the Wahoo lead out, 35-0.
Wayne High scored their only points in the fourth quarter when senior quarterback Beau Bowers found senior wideout Mason Lee for a 54-yard touchdown. Sophomore running back Casey Koenig added the two-point conversion to trail 35-8.
Wahoo ended the night scoring one final touchdown from senior running back Ryan Ickler on a 10-yard run.
Wahoo will next visit #1 Norfolk Catholic on Friday, November 10 during the Class C1 semi-final game.
Other Class C1 finals: #1 Norfolk Catholic defeated #9 David City Aquinas Catholic, 21-17; #6 Boone Central/Newman Grove upset #3 Boys Town 19-9 and #15 Pierce knocked out #7 West Point-Beemer 54-34.
Class C2 area score #9 Battle Creek upset #1 Ponca, 24-20. The Braves will next host #12 Yutan who defeated #4 Valentine, 20-7 at home. The semi-final game is scheduled for Friday, November 10.
