WAKEFIELD – With the Max Greve Wood Bat Tournament set to begin this weekend, the Wakefield Post 81 Junior American Legion baseball team began with a home contest Thursday.
From Eaton Field in Wakefield, Post 81 played host to the Norfolk Juniors for a regular season contest.
Norfolk scored a run in three consecutive innings to lead 3-0 entering the home half of the fifth. Wakefield Post 81 then erupted for a four-run fifth and held onto win 4-3. Wakefield is now 6-9 on the season.
Justin Erb recorded a double to go along with three RBI’s for Post 81. Solomon Peitz, Lukas Oswald and Gabe Peitz also singled.
Nolan Belt started the opening four innings allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out three batters but walking another eight. Blake Brown worked an inning allowing an earned run while walking one batter and Parker Lehmkuhl came in for the win in two innings striking out one batter. As a pitching staff, Wakefield Post 81 allowed no hits.

Wakefield will be the host team for the two-site Wood Bat Tourney set to open this weekend. Games will be held at Eaton Field in Wakefield Friday, June 9 – Sunday, June 11 while Hank Overin Field in Wayne will host games Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11.
