O’NEILL – With just one regular season game and Districts remaining on the schedule, Wayne High took part in the Mid State Conference Softball Tournament Saturday.
Following a win by #4 O’Neill over #5 Pierce, #1 Wayne High took on the Eagles in the second round Saturday morning.
WHS took care of business offensively with a 10-0 win while picking up their second win in three days over #3 Guardian Angels Central Catholic, 14-2 in the championship game. WHS improves to 26-3 on the season and have won five straight.
In the win over O’Neill, WHS scored all 10 of their runs in the third inning.
Tori Kniesche recorded a single, homerun and five RBI. Kennedy Maly added a single and two RBI while Maysn Dorey and Jenna Trenhaile each accounted for a RBI as Annie Kniesche singled.
Tori Kniesche picked up the perfect game win in four innings striking out 12 batters.

During the championship game, Wayne scored a run in the opening inning while erupting for an 11-run second inning. Both teams brought in two runs in the third inning.
Tori Kniesche added another homerun with a single and five RBI. Trenhaile accounted for a grand slam while Dorey recorded three singles and three runs scored.
Tori Kniesche picked up the complete game win in three innings allowing two earned runs off of three hits while striking out six batters and walking one.

Wayne High’s game scheduled for Monday, October 2 with South Sioux City has been cancelled. WHS will compete in the Class B-4 District Tournament on Thursday and Friday, October 5-6 in Wisner.
