WAYNE – The Wayne Pony baseball team took part in the Wood Bat Tournament over the weekend while also competing in a regular season Tri-County League game on Sunday.
During the first game of the tourney, Wayne lost to Wahoo 5-3 before edging the South Sioux City Reds 3-2. Wayne also lost to the Lincoln Black Hawks (5-2).
From the loss to Wahoo, Max Miller paced the team with a single, double and two RBI’s. Victor Kniesche added a single.
Kniesche suffered the loss while Nolan Hunke came worked the final inning.
In the win over the South Sioux City Reds, Kniesche singled and doubled. Mike Leatherdale added a double.
Hunke picked up the win with Dylan Anderson pitching in relief.
During the final game of the tourney against the Lincoln Black Hawks, Jacob Anderson recorded the lone hit being a single to go along with a RBI.
Hunke suffered the loss.
From Sunday night’s league game, the Wayne Ponies defeated the West Point Royals, 12-6. Wayne improves to 6-0 in league play.
Wayne recorded 12 hits, led by three singles from Nolan Hunke. Brandon Bartos, Jacob Anderson, Koby Nelson and Justin Sherman all doubled while Cole Hobza, Victor Kniesche, Max Miller, Kyran Bartos and Toby Braun all singled.
Hobza picked up the win in four innings allowing three runs. Kniesche worked the next two innings allowing two runs while Dylan Anderson pitched the final inning allowing one run.
Wayne will next visit Stanton on Wednesday, June 14 at 7 p.m.
