WAYNE – Following a 1-1 record in pool play, the Wayne Post 43 Junior American Legion baseball team took part in a tournament game Sunday afternoon.
From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, Post 43 battled with Hartington. Hartington went 2-0 in their pool play, as the winner would advance to the championship game Sunday evening.
Early on Hartington held a one-run lead, as Hartington outscored Wayne 4-3 in the first inning. Wayne then took the lead following a two-run second inning and another run in the third at 6-4. But, Hartington answered back with a four-run third inning to regain the lead at 8-6. Wayne Post 43 tied the game back up with a two-run sixth inning before Hartington won the ninth inning, 2-1. Hartington won the game on a walk-off hit by pitch for a final of 10-9 as Wayne Post 43 falls to 8-7 overall.
Reid Korth paced Wayne with two singles and two runs batted in. Hagan Miller added a single and double while Josh Lutt singled twice and drove in a run. Jacob Kneifl also doubled and drove in two runs.
Tyrus Eischeid started the first two-thirds of an inning allowing four runs (three earned) off of one hit while striking out one batter and walking four. Tyler Gilliland worked the next inning and a third allowing four earned runs off of one hit while striking out three batters and walking six. Kneifl pitched four and a third innings allowing one hit while striking out seven batters and walking one. Blake Bartos suffered the loss in the final inning and two-thirds allowing two earned runs while striking out two batters and walking one.

Due to a scheduling conflict for the Battle Creek Juniors, Wayne Post 43 will win by forfeit during Monday night’s double header. Wayne is now 9-7 on the season and will next visit Laurel on Wednesday, June 14 at 5:45 p.m.
