WAYNE – All three Wayne youth baseball travel teams were in action over the weekend during the Wayne Baseball Youth Tournament.
From the Summer Sports Complex, the Wayne Didgets, Broncos and Ponies all competed in tourney action.
The Wayne Didgets were crowned champions of their age group going 3-0. They picked up wins over Pender (6-0), Wisner (14-3) and Dakota Valley (3-2) in the championship game.
During the opening round win over Pender, Devin Anderson recorded a double, triple and five RBI’s. Colson Nelsen added a single and double while Gavin Redden doubled and drove in a run.
Nelson picked up the win in four innings allowing two hits while striking out seven batters and walking another two. Redden worked the final two innings striking out five batters.
From the win over Wisner, Devin Anderson went off to record four hits. He singled and doubled twice while driving in a run. Redden added a single, double, homerun and four RBI’s. Calvin Ankeny also drove in four runs off of a single and double. Nelson added three singles and a RBI while Jase Dean doubled twice and drove in three runs.
Dean picked up the win in four innings allowing three earned runs off of three hits while striking out and walking four batters each. Redden worked an inning striking out two batters while Gavin Anderson pitched the final innings allowing two hits while striking out two batters and walking one.
Moving into the championship game win over Dakota Valley, Redden accounted for a single, double and two RBI’s. Devin Anderson singled twice while Dean added a RBI.
Devin Anderson picked up the complete game win in six innings allowing two earned runs off of five hits while striking out nine batters and walking one.
Both the Wayne Blue and White Didgets are back in action this evening from the Summer Sports Complex. The Blue’s are 6-2 on the season and will host the Oakland Royals at 6 p.m. while the White’s are 2-6 and will host Wakefield at 6 p.m.
The Wayne Broncos also were crowned champions with four wins. The Broncos defeated Pender (11-1), Logan View Gold (20-0), West Point Royals (16-1) and Blair (17-3).
Both the Wayne Blue and White Broncos are back in action this evening from the Summer Sports Complex. The Blue’s are 7-1 on the season and will host the Oakland Royals at 7:45 p.m. while the White’s are 6-2 overall and will host Wakefield at 7:45 p.m.
The Wayne Ponies went 2-1 with an opening round loss to Dakota Valley (14-0) but two straight wins over the Townhouse Huskies (14-1) and Blair Bears (9-1) to finish third place. The Ponies also picked up a Tri-County league win over Pender, 9-3, Sunday evening. Wayne is now 8-0 in league play and 14-4 on the season.
From the lone loss over the weekend to Dakota Valley, the Wayne Ponies were able to only produce one hit. Max Miller singled.
Nolan Hunke suffered the loss in an inning and a third allowing eight runs (six earned) off of six hits while striking out one batter and walking another three. Dylan Anderson worked the next two and a third innings allowing five earned runs off of five hits while also striking out one batter and walking three. Toby Braun pitched the final inning allowing an earned run while walking one batter.
During the win over the Townhouse Huskies, Victor Kniesche recorded two singles, a double and four RBI’s. Cole Hobza also doubled and added two singles. Mike Leatherdale tacked on a single, triple and two RBI’s as Max Miller singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
Kniesche picked up the win in four innings allowing four runs (three earned) off of four hits while striking out nine batters and walking six. Hobza worked the final inning allowing two hits while striking out two batters and walking one.
In the final Wayne Baseball Youth Tourney win over the Blair Bears, Kniesche recorded a single, double and two RBI’s for the Ponies. Koby Nelson also singled, doubled and drove in a run while Miller singled twice and drove in two runs.
Hunke picked up the win in six innings allowing two hits while striking out six batters. Dylan Anderson worked the final innings allowing an earned run off of two hits while striking out two batters.
Back in Tri-County League play Sunday evening, Wayne picked up a 9-3 win over Pender. Wayne only recorded five singles as just three hits accounted for all seven runs batted in.
Nolan Hunke drove in three runs while Cole Hobza and Mike Leatherdale each drove in a pair of runs. Victor Kniesche and Kyran Bartos each added a RBI.
Kniesche picked up the win in four innings allowing two earned runs off of one hit while striking out 11 batters and walking another four. Hobza worked the final three innings allowing a run off of a hit while striking out and walking two batters each.
The Wayne Ponies will next be in action on Wednesday June 21 when the team visits Wisner at 7 p.m.
