Wilber Defeats Pierce in 1st Round of State

CENTRAL CITY, Neb. – Strong pitching allowed Wilber to win game one in the Class C State Tournament.

Wilber took down Pierce 9-0 after their starter Josh Kalkwarf threw 4 and 2/3 inning with no runs, one hit and five strikeouts.

Wilber’s four run led was extended by five runs in the 6th inning, after the Pierce pitching staff struggled with control. Dillion Rieschick of Wilber went three for four on the day with a double and three runs.

Wilber will play at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, and Pierce will play at 10:30 a.m. in the loser’s bracket.
