KEARNEY – The Wayne State College women’s and men’s track & field team made a visit to Kearney for the UNK Loper Invitational.
On Saturday, junior Michaela Dendinger kept her outstanding outdoor season going with a first, second and third place finish.
She recorded the top shot put throw (52’ 1 ¾”), a NCAA automatic mark which is now the top throw in NCAA DII to win the event. Dendinger also took second in the discus (165’) and third in the hammer throw (203’ 1”).
Other field events included junior Kacie O’Connor taking eighth in the discus (149’ 2”) as both redshirt freshman Shelby Poell and sophomore Shelby Roth tied for ninth in the high jump (4’ 10 1/4”).
On the track, senior Mary Alderson placed third in the 400-meter dash (59.44) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (26.07). Fellow senior Melissa Kroll finished fifth in the 200-meter dash and seventh in the 400-meter dash (1:00.77).
From the men’s division, junior Brady Metz won the triple jump (48’ 10 ¼”), just ¾” from the school record. He also took second in the long jump (23’ 4 ½”). Redshirt freshman Habib Jallow won the 400-meter hurdles (56.9).
The 4X100-meter relay team (sophomore Alvyns Alcenord, junior Braxton Adams, sophomore Clay Kramper and sophomore Jordan Zautke) took first at 41.68 seconds.
Other top results for the ‘Cats included redshirt freshman Jack Doughty taking third in the 5,000-meter run (16:26.59), Kramper fourth in the 400-meter dash (48.9) and senior Nick Schmit fourth in the 800-meter run (1:59.02). Redshirt Freshman Travis Eller finished fourth in the long jump (21’ 8 ¼”) and Zautke fifth in the 100-meter dash at 11.11 seconds.
Senior Nick Fly came in seventh in the 800-meter run (1:59.15), Alcenord was seventh in the 200-meter dash (22.53) with Zautke eighth at 22.59 and senior Josh Spenner tied for eighth in the pole vault clearing 14’ 1 ¾”.
The WSC 4X400-meter relay team (freshman Nathan Pearson, Fly, freshman Kak Ayaj and senior Joey Black) came in fifth place with a time of 3:42.30.
Wayne State will compete on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22 at the Sioux City Relays in Sioux City, Iowa.
