Wildcat Women’s Soccer Suffers Home Loss

WAYNE – Following a 1-1 draw with a top team in the NSIC, the Wayne State College women’s soccer team began their non-conference schedule over the weekend.

On Sunday the ‘Cats played host to Colorado Christian from the WSC Soccer Pitch.

Colorado Christian struck first in the 22nd minute, but 16 minutes later it was Wayne State tying the game in the 38th minute. Senior Bryana Garcia scored on a rebound shot, assisted by sophomore Sophie Ketchmark.

Early in the second half, 49:56, Colorado Christian added another goal. But, WSC countered again this time from junior Brooke Buzzell tapping in a goal from six yards out, assisted by junior Natalie Rech in the 62nd minute. Colorado Christian would add two more goals in the second half (62:43/84:22) to hand WSC their first loss of the season at 0-1-1. CCU is now 1-1 on the year.

Both teams shot the ball well as Colorado Christian only outshot WSC 18-16, as the ‘Cats won the shot on goal stat (8-7) and corner kicks (5-4).

Eight different Wildcat players had a shot on goal with Buzzell taking the most (four) and getting a goal along with Garcia.

Sophomore Rachel Grisham recorded three saves while allowing four goals.

WSC is back in action today with Black Hills State at 2 p.m. while finishing off their non-conference schedule at St. Ambrose University on Friday, September 8 at 3 p.m.
