NORFOLK – The last two matchups between Norfolk and Millard West were close 1-0 encounters, but Tuesday night’s match between the Panthers and Wildcats saw goals aplenty at Memorial Field.
The fourth-ranked Wildcats (9-4) took control in the early stages and snagged three goals before halftime on their way to a 5-2 win over the Panthers (4-9) on Tuesday night. It took Millard West until the 12th minute to put one in the back of the net as Erik Fahner’s left-footed shot found the bottom corner and sent the Wildcats on their way to a comfortable win over the Panthers.
Caden Frank found the scoresheet four minutes later to double Millard West’s lead and Marco Rubio’s goal in the 28th minute gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. Norfolk settled in to start the second half, but Fahner added his second goal in the 62nd minute to make it a 4-0 Millard West advantage. Nate Bauermeister added a goal four minutes later to make it 5-0, but Norfolk fought back with two goals from Cameron Eisenhauer in the 69th and 77th minute to give the Panthers a deserved consolation.
Norfolk wraps up the regular season with three matches on the road, the first coming on Thursday at Elkhorn with road games at North Platte and Fremont to follow. Millard West is back in action at the Van Metre Invite beginning Thursday at Omaha South.
