WISNER – The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears visited Wisner-Pilger Thursday evening during Parent’s Night in Wisner.
During the girls game, Wisner-Pilger took control early with a 19-12 first quarter and followed with a 20-13 second. The Gators took a 39-25 lead into the locker room. Wisner-Pilger then won the third quarter, 18-12 as both teams tallied 16 points in the fourth. Final found Wisner-Pilger winning 73-53 to improve to 8-14 as Laurel-Concord-Coleridge fell to 7-15.
Junior Jordan Wegner led all scorers with 24 points, 14 in the second half for Wisner-Pilger. Senior Maci Batenhorst followed with 18 points as sophomore Karrin Jindra added another 14.
Senior Bryn Schutte and sophomore Makayla Forsberg each recorded 12 points to pace LCC in scoring.
Wisner-Pilger will next visit Clarkson-Leigh on Friday, February 9 before being the #4 seed in the Class C2-4 Subdistrict on Monday, February 12 and will face #5 Battle Creek at 7 p.m. from Norfolk Catholic High School. #5 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will battle #4 Hartington Cedar Catholic at 7 p.m. also on Monday from Wayne High School during the Class C2-5 Subdistrict.
In the boys contest, Wisner-Pilger got off to a hot 22-4 first quarter start while adding a 17-11 second. The Gators led 39-15 at the break. Wisner-Pilger posted another 22-point quarter as LCC was only able to manage nine points. In the fourth, the Gators outscored the Bears 7-6 and won the game, 68-30. Wisner-Pilger improves to 15-7 as Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is now 12-9.
Sophomore Colby Heller was the team leader for Wisner-Pilger with 15 points as senior Keegan Ruskamp followed with 14 points. Senior Gunner Labenz tallied 13 points as senior Hunter Waterman recorded another 11.
Sophomore Noah Schutte paced LCC in scoring with 10 points as junior Izac Reifenrath tacked on eight points.
Wisner-Pilger will also be in action at Clarkson-Leigh on Friday, February 9 as the Bears will end their season on Friday, February 16 with Wynot coming to town
