WAYNE – The Wayne Post 43 Junior American Legion baseball team was back at home after competing in the Battle at the Fort over the weekend, going 2-1.
From Hank Overin Field Tuesday evening, Wayne Post 43 played host to Yankton Post 12.
Yankton would vault ahead early with a five-run first inning before Wayne countered with a run. Down 5-1, Wayne Post 43 then outscored Yankton 3-1 in the fifth, but Post 12 won the sixth inning 4-2. With the score 10-6, Wayne Post 43 then added two more runs and couldn’t score in the in ninth to fall 10-8. Wayne Post 43 is now 6-4 on the season.

Trevor DeBoer paced Wayne Post 43 at the plate with a three-hit performance. He recorded two singles, a double and four RBI’s. Jacob Kneifl added two singles and a RBI while Reid Korth singled twice. Hagan Miller doubled and drove in three runs.
Kneifl suffered the loss in two innings allowing five runs (three earned) off of three hits while striking out two batters and walking one. Jacob Sherman worked the next four innings allowing five earned runs off of six hits while striking out two batters and walking three. Tyrus Eischeid pitched the final three innings striking out four batters and walking one.
Chris Steffen was the team leader for Yankton Post 12 with three singles and a RBI. Will Pease followed with a single, double and four RBI’s. Caydon Peterson also doubled for Post 12.
Grant Nelson picked up the win in five innings allowing four earned runs off of six hits while striking out one batter and walking four.
Wayne Post 43 Juniors will join their Seniors for a road double header in Wisner this evening. Wayne will face Wisner/Pilger/Dodge/Howells at 5:45 p.m. for the Juniors contest and 8 p.m. for the Seniors game.
