Yutan Uses Strong 2nd Half to Beat Battle Creek 21-7

BATTLE CREEK, NE – The Yutan Chieftains forced three turnovers in the second half to beat the Battle Creek Braves 21-7 at Bob Schnitzler Field on Friday night.

The Chieftains’ Bryland Menicucci ran for 15 yards on a fake punt on 4th and 11 late in the third quarter. Later in the drive, quarterback Griffin Hendricks found Chase Perchal for a touchdown pass to put Yutan up 14-7.

Braves running back Weston Johnson injured his ankle in the next drive bringing in Blake Heller at the position. Heller put the ball on the turf and the Chieftains took over possession.

Menicucci made it a two-score game when he broke a 70-yard touchdown run on a draw play. They iced the game with an interception with under three minutes to go.

Yutan will face Centennial in the championship game. They lost to Centennial 28-25 on September 1st. This is their first trip to Memorial Stadium since 1988.

Battle Creek finished the year 8-4 and lost in the semifinals for the fifth straight season.
