Former Speaker Mike Flood to be Honored by UNMC
OMAHA- The University of Nebraska Medical Center will be holding it's commencement exercises on Saturday May 10th in Omaha. Officials will also honor former State Senator and speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood during the graduation.
Flood will be given the J.G. Elliot Award for his leadership and efforts to establish the UNMC College of Nursing division in Norfolk. In 2006, Flood worked with UNMC and the University of Nebraska address the growing demand for acute care in northeast Nebraska, which at the time, had fewer registered nurses and nurses with bachelor's and master's degrees than any other region in the state.
Flood helped to coordinate a public-private partnership, raising more than $11.9 million for the J. Paul and Eleanor McIntosh College of Nursing on the campus of Northeast Community College which admitted it's first class in 2010.
J.G. Elliott Award is given each year in memory of Jack Elliott of Scottsbluff, who served on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents for 20 years until his death in 1974.
