Norfolk Man Runs From Wayne to Norfolk for School in Malawi
NORFOLK - One Northeast Nebraska man started Saturday morning off with a 32-mile run to help raise funds for his private school in Africa.
Joe Mtika of Norfolk, a native of Malawi, Africa left from the Wayne City Administration building around 5:45 Saturday morning and ran to Norfolk. Mtika said that he used the run as a way to raise funds and awareness for the private school he stated in Malawi. He said that while he runs four miles most days of the week, he's never ran a marathon, let a lone the 31.6 mile trek from Wayne to Norfolk.
Mitka: "It's something I do but there's a bigger cause than me. One day I won't be there, but the need is still going to be there.
The exact amount of money raised from the run is still being tabulated. Mtika said that Norfolk Private School Malawi is scheduled to be able to accept students beginning next year. Those who'd like to make a donation can send donations marked for the Norfolk Private School Malawi to First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk.
