April Unemployment Rate Drops for Local Area
NORFOLK - The unemployment rate for the greater Norfolk area dropped again for the month of April.
According to Nebraska State Department of Labor, the unemployment rate for the area including Madison, Pierce & Stanton Counties sat at 2.9% in the month of April, nearly a full percentage point down from March's rate of 3.8%. The rate is also lower than the 3.3% unemployment rate in April 2013.
State labor statistics shows that a total of 25,971 people were employed in the local area in fourth month of 2014 and 788 people had applied for unemployment benefits for the same period.
Statewide, Nebraska saw an unemployment rate of 3.6% in April, slightly lower than March's statewide rate of 3.8%. The national unemployment rate for April also dropped to 6.3%.
