Norfolk Water Crews to Begin Water Main Flushing This Weekend
NORFOLK - The City of Norfolk will begin water main flushing operations this weekend. The city water and sewer division will begin flushing work from 8:30pm to 6:30am beginning Sunday May 4th. Flushing will be done nightly Sunday nights though Thursday mornings, and expected to be completed on May 22nd.
The flushing work will impact all commercial areas along east and west Norfolk Ave., east and west Omaha Ave., areas south of Benjamin on 13th street, and all areas of north and south 1st street.
City water officials say that the flushing program is designed to remove the buildup of iron and manganese deposits that collected along the city water mains. Officials say the water is bacteria free, however, it is not recommended to consume if it is extremely discolored. Residents in the flushing areas are also encouraged to not do laundry during the hours of flushing.
Officials also recommend residents to isolate ice machines so to prevent deposits from plugging ice machines.
