Two Students Treated and Released Following Friday Morning Bus Crash

LEIGH - A bus carrying 20-students from the Leigh School District flipped onto it's side into a ditch off of 827th road nine miles northwest of Leigh around 8:00am Friday morning due to conditions.

A total of three students were reported inured, one was treated at the Leigh School for minor injuries while two students, an eight-year-old and nine-year-old were transported via ambulance to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Dr. Michael Montgomery, Superintendent of the Leigh School provided an update on the status of the two that were transported to the hospital…

Dr. Montgomery: "Both children have been treated and released, they're home now with their parents."

Dr. Montgomery did express his thanks for the parents and other area residents that helped take the remaining students to school Friday morning. He also said that from the district level, there was no thought to cancel school due to the conditions.

Stanton County authorities plan to retrieve the bus from the creek bed when conditions improve.
