Census Bureau: Northeast Nebraska Population Largely Decreasing

NORFOLK - A new report from the U.S. Census estimates that 31 Nebraska counties have seen their populations grow since the 2010 Census, but only three northeast Nebraska counties are among them.

Census estimates released Thursday show a growth of just over 400 people in Madison County, a jump of slightly more than 1% from 2010. Platte and Stanton counties also saw slight increases, but the rest of the area counties are estimated to have dropped in population so far this decade.

Among area counties, Antelope County is estimated to have seen the largest decrease in population, dropping by 229 people, or about 3%.

Census officials say for the most part, the most populated counties are the ones that saw the most growth, with Sarpy, Lancaster and Douglas counties showing the most growth statewide.
