Second Candidate Certified for Norfolk City Council Seat
NORFOLK - A second candidate will be on the ballot in Norfolk's Ward 1 City Council race. Madison County Clerk Nancy Scheer confrimed Thursday morning that Co-owner of Connecting Point in Norfolk Dan Spray says has turned in enough signatures to qualify the November ballot. The seat is currently held by Corey Granquist, who is also on the ballot. Granquist was appointed to the seat in June, following the resignation of previous city councilman Dale Coy. Spray said that as he was gathering signatures and talking to potential voters, two issues continued to come up.
Spray: "The sales tax for the library and the recent investment into the airport as well, that came up several times. Those types of things were what I heard most as I was out on my walks."
The race between Spray and Granquist is the only contest city council race in Norfolk this November. Any other potential candidates for the Ward 1 council seat have until next Tuesday to turn in the necessary 174 signatures to the Madison County Clerk's office.
