UPDATE: Preliminary autopsy rules out foul play, drugs, and alcohol in student death

Eddie Key, III

WAYNE (KTIV/Norfolk News Bureau) - Preliminary autopsy results are shedding some light on the circumstances surrounding a Wayne State College student's death.

Nebraska authorities are investigating the death of 18-year-old Eddie Key III, a football player who was found dead in his dorm room. According to the school, Key's body was found by a resident assistant in Berry Hall, around seven p.m. Saturday night.

Key played defensive end for Wayne State last fall after he graduated from Lincoln North Star High School.

Sunday night, the Wayne Police Department said no apparent foul play was found at the scene. Preliminary autopsy results show neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor.

Wayne State spokesman Jay Collier said counseling was provided during a football team meeting Saturday night, and continues to be available to all students on campus

Collier said Key's death has shaken this small school.

Collier: "We're a tight-knit family here. So, when you're a college of 3600 students everyone sort of knows everyone so we take these losses particularly hard."

Complete autopsy and toxicology results may take several weeks.
