Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Eilers, age 70, of Spencer, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. August 25, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spencer. Reverend Doug Scheinost will be Celebrant, with burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Spencer.
Visitation will be August 24, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. Wake Service.
Brockhaus Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
Robert died Thursday, August 10, 2017, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Robert J. Eilers, son of August and Dorothy (Blum) Eilers was born July 28, 1947, at Lynch, NE. He attended Spencer Public School and graduated in 1966. Bob was drafted in the United States Army, serving in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, Bob worked as a farm hand for Hank and Annie Fish, along with helping his dad and brother run the family farm. Bob retired from farming in 2010, and then worked for Gene Lechtenberg Plumbing. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Spencer American Legion.
In June of this year, Bob was diagnosed with cancer. He spent his last several months battling a number of health issues. Bob died August 10th at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha at the age of 70 years and 13 days.
Survivors include two brothers, Ron Eilers, of Bristow and Ernie (Carol) Eilers of Spencer; one sister, Linda (Don) Conzemius of Hartington; an aunt, Helen Mitchell of O’Neill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Dorothy Eilers.
Bob loved to play cards and spend time with his family and many friends. His smile and witty personality will be missed.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of Bob’s family and friends.
