The Grand Island Fire Department certified as one of the best in the country

GRAND ISLAND, Neb.- The cost of your fire insurance could be going down, thanks to higher performance ratings for the fire department.

The department has jumped from Class 3 to Class 1.

The Class 1 rating has been reached by less than 1 percent of fire departments across the country.

Key items include responsiveness, adequate and trained personnel, equipment, training, water supply, and organization.

Chief Cory Schmidt says, “The improvement in qualification was made possible by the hard work and dedication not only of members of our department but also of the water department and dispatch center.”

The new rating will take effect on July 1.
